Auditory Brainstem Response

The ABR test measures how the brain responds to sounds. The brain’s activity is measured by attaching electrodes (wires) to the baby’s scalp. This method of testing is particularly comprehensive, making it our preferred test for newborns.

What is Measured?

Our professional audiologist measures how well sound travels from the ear to the brainstem along hearing nerve pathways.

When is ABR Tested?

The ABR test can be performed when the child is sleeping or lying quietly. We can also sedate the child if it is required.
